How to Play
To move your tank, click were you want it to go. Your tank can only move so far and might take several clicks to get there. If you make a mistake in making a path, hit "Z" to undo. To shoot, click on your tank, hold down, move cursor and aim with the cannon and release. KeysArrow keys: Move view of Map Space: Overview of Map/Centers the screen over your tank + and -: Zoom in or out.
T: Write a message. M: Mute sound. S: Activate smoke bomb. Aim + R: Use rope. (Pick up two ropes for a longer rope.) Aim + F: Pass flag. Aim + A: Share ammo. Aim + H: Share health.
ItemsHeart - Fully heals you. (100%) Medical kit - Gives you 20% of your health back. Bombs - Deals 20-60% Damage.if it hits you 60% damage. if the bomb misses but the explosion covers your tnak,40%. 20% if it clips your tank. Explosive - Damage can range from 20% to 60%. 60% if you hit it, if you shoot it and are not far away enough it does 40. if you get clipped by the explosion it does 20% Bush - To hide in Barrier - One-way protection. Use these as cover to keep your health up, but still be able to shoot at the opponent. Rope - To use Aim+R. Flag (Team Play only) - To pass Aim+F. Smoke - Covers you and surrounding people in a cloud of smoke. There are currently 2 types of game play. Individual and Team Play. Individual PlayFree for all - Get your score by hitting your opponents and avoid getting yourself killed. If you hit a person its 1 point. Regardless with a bomb or normal bullet. If you kill a person its 2 points. If you get killed you lose 5 points. Team PlayTwo teams and two bases at different areas. To get points for your team, kill your enemies or bring the flag into your base without being hit. If you kill the enemy, you gain one point for your team. If you bring the flag home, its 5 points to your team. Killing yourself gives the other team a point, there is no friendly fire so you cannot kill your own teammates.
TankMania Tips If you're being shot at move in the direction you're going to dodge the shot. Ctrl+W, Alt+F4, Alt+back arrow and F5 does not give you cheats to the game. CTRL+W and Alt+F4 close your window. Alt+back arrow sends you back a page. F5 refreshes your window. However, in 2008, Tomas deleted all maps except some. This website became completely useless. But Harami has remade some of the popular maps using his latest program. TankMania Extra CategoryThe History of TankmaniaThe beginning (2002) Tankwars started as a simple yet addictive 2D flash game. While the game seemed simple at first, it combined reflexes with accuracy and strategy. With much fewer free games to choose from back in those days, the exciting game play, and the ability to play against other people, made it grow quickly in popularity. It drew large crowds from game site portals around the world like Arcadepod.com, Freearcadegames.com, minijuegos.com etc.. Tankwars initialy had player stats, and ranking. But players quickly found ways to cheat the stats by killing bogus tanks, and the player stats were scrapped. Players created the first 1v1 ladder at this time. This was a de-throne ladder. You take the position of the person you defeat. The Golden Age(2003-2004) Tankmania 1, the sequel to Tankwars, was created on Feburary 8,2003. Then Tankmania 2 was created in August 2003: Tankmania 1 was very much like Tankwars. Tankmania 2 introduced far more changes. While it remained 2D, it had better graphics, double rope, custom maps (players could create their own maps), and players now had their personal profile pages (like their own myspace). Initially there was no limit to the amount of rope you could daisy-chain, and you could shoot triple bombs. But those features were scraped. Some of the good things around this time: 1. Far more players active. 2. Very little lag. 3. Cheating progams were not available (such as aimbot, speed hack programs). Some cheats were created but weren't effective nor really helpful, and never published for all to download. 4. Custom maps, which let players make their own maps, was implemented. 5. Serious teams that lasted more than a week and played regularly, with scores kept. Teams like Royals, Spaboyz, Imperials, Razorbacks, etc... 6. A very effective and popular 1v1 ladder created and maintained by Hell33 7. Overall higher skill levels, with players refining their skills to get on top of the ladder or beat a top team. 8. More tournaments. The Downfall (2004-2005) Starting in mid-2004, aimline and aimbots programs made their first apparition, and by 2005 became widespread, while at the same time the server often crashed and much more lag was experienced in the game. You couldn't have a serious 1v1 or team game without wondering if the opponent was cheating, and at the same time the intense lag made it impossible to play a full game without freezing or things just going wrong. Team disbanded, the ladder ended, very few tournaments took place, and many players left. Some stayed in hopes that a new version would fix most of the problems and make programs obsolete.
The Dark Age (2006-2008) Rumors of the date of the new version kept popping up. Videos of Tank Mania 3 were published on the website. While the lag is still around at this time, it is far less intense than what it was around 2004 and 2005. The game is actually playable, and a new generation of players emerges. New players, or what Tank Mania historians refer as the second generation, slowly replaced the first generation. Generally, the second generation comprised of more immature, uncivilized and unfriendly people. In November 2008, Tomas announced the shutdown of the game. Tank Mania 3, which would actually be the 4th installment in the series, was abandoned, and Tomas will not sell the game. The Shutting Down On 30 December 2008, Tank Mania was peacefully put to sleep. This is the note that Tomas left on Tank Mania site: "Thanks to all support through the years, it helped a lot and will not be forgotten. But the limit of time I can't continue this to the level I wanted and other things in life have to be prioritized. My homepage will continue with smaller projects. Good luck to you all. /Tomas Maybe not all know how it has been behind. The server has been running in my apartment on a 1ghz linux-server in about 5-6 years 24/7. That was the choice because you can't put a multiplayer game just anywhere at low cost. It was build of a combination of Java, script and a database at server side. Luckily I had no bigger hardware failure except some fan problems, because it would been quite hurry to buy new hardware if something crash. Actually it have been thieves inside my apartment but they just stoled some small things. It has been a cheap risky solution, limited and nothing you build to scale up even if I never expected people around the world would play it. So therefor I did the choice to end the game because I hadn't the vision to make something big out of it." The Tank Mania site is still online as well as the official forums. Ex-players have also created an online community which has an embedded chatroom and a link to an IRC chatroom. This community serves the purpose as a way to stay in touch with each other. The future of Tank Mania remains unknown. R.I.P. Tank Mania (2003-2008) Tankmania returns in a new form made by Harami.
